I love Fridays. I used to love Mondays - a long time ago. But now I really love Fridays! Fridays mean that I don't have to go back to that nasty day job (it's not that bad, it's just not home, it's just not the studio) for two whole days, and I get to stay beneath my trees and just be. Saturdays are usually studio days and Sundays mean early morning farmer's market, catching up on the goings on about town while relaxing on the porch at Perk with a great cup of coffee and great people. It's amazing how inspiring that short trip to town is on Sunday morning. The afternoon finds me excited to get back to the studio, ideas just start flowing non-stop (I'm starting to think Jill is putting something in the coffee!! Lol!)
I stopped by Ostara* on Wednesday to drop a few more things off for Musikfest - which was in full swing. We went early in the day, arriving around 3:00 - by 5:15 the streets were alive with hundreds of people, and music was heard from every corner. If you've never experienced Musikfest, it really is one of those, have to do at least once in your life things. The entire downtown of Bethlehem literally shuts down its streets and opens them to musicians, artists and of course "festers". It is a nonstop concert for 10 days. Evey type of music you can imagine - but to really experience Musikfest - you have to go to Festplatz - It is literally the party-platz- because 80% of the bands play POLKA. I know - ewh. There is a time and place for polka music. You take a polka band, on a hot summer night, place it in the middle of a few hundred people (ages 2 to 72) with no where to go and nothing to do but relax, eat, drink and have fun - and all of a sudden it is transformed into the hottest act in town! So much fun!

Current Quandary or Momentary Dither?
I work backwards. and sideways and even upside down, sometimes. I can't help it. It seems to be the only way I can get things done. For example; when making art dolls, the appropriate way to create an art doll (as suggested by many well established doll artists) is to create the armature, then the head, hands, feet; paint/accent and attach all the pieces; dress the little bugger and then add the hair and final embellishments. (usually explained that the hair gets all funked up and in the way if put on before hand) I can't do it. I am art-doll-challenged (that's PC, by the way- lol) I have to create the head, paint in its features and add the hair first - then everything else - oh and hands and feet are last - usually second last only to dressing - I can not vision a personality unless the head is complete. I fully respect those that can get a full vision of what something is supposed to look like before they even start - but as for me - I just can't do it. Once the personality is established things to tend to flow - but otherwise- I'm just staring at a lump of clay and wire. I am hoping that this is a process that will just take over as I learn more, develop additional technique, etc... but for now - this seems to be working for me - it is just a very odd picture when you walk into the studio and you are exposed to a scene that looks similar to an act of Vlad the Impaler - little finished heads/torsos on sticks everywhere (minus the gore)- Thus is born the next one that just cracks me up (some do that!) She has such a goofy grin and the freckles! - I still have no idea who or what she will become - for now she is happy on her stick in the studio... I will just have to wait and see.
Cheers!
Just a Reminder...
I have had a few inquiries about the Etsy shop, so this is just a reminder to all. Since 96% of all of my current dolls and mosaic pieces are going to Musikfest, I have had to put off the opening of the Etsy shop (www.Etsy.com) (tag= theGigglingGoblin) until around August 10th (after the closing of Musikfest). I wish I had more time in the day, but I still have that "day job" to contend with - and I want to make sure the shop is opened properly - so in order to do this - I just have to postpone it for a while. No worries though - by the end of August - I promise we will be up and running. In the mean time - If there is something someone is interested in - you can always contact me directly via email. Thanks again for all of the support!
Cheers!

Sir Oodles and Maggie Pie
When Sir Oodles and Maggie Pie return from their whirl-wind tour of California (Sir Oodles was chosen to be in the latest issue of Art Doll Quarterly), Maggie Pie will be making an appearance at Musikfest at Ostara*. Sir Oodles on the other hand, will be relaxing at the Studio - evidently- the photo sessions and excitement of being in such close proximately of Beth Robinson's Strange Dolls - was just to much for him to handle! I don't blame him! - Beth Robinson is the subject of the artist profile and what a phenomenal layout and article - and what amazing, soul-stirring work she does! Check it out!
Homer and Hobart
Homer is so serious!
Substructure is made of re-purposed materials:: an aluminum candle holder/hanger, an old wire hanger and a plastic holiday tree ornament. Stands approximately 16" tall and is free-standing.
He has a twin brother, Hobart, who will be making an appearance shortly.

These will be added to the list going to Ostara* for Musikfest. If you are interested in anything posted to go to Ostara*and can't make it to Bethlehem for Musikfest, feel free to email me, or follow the links to Ostara* and you may contact the shop directly.

News from the Studio
There is a reason why I seldom take those precious moments to get away from the world. When I get back, it seems as though everything comes racing in at a rapid speed. And while I am still in slow motion vacation time, "Overwhelmed" happens very quickly!
In my absence, I have had a request for two custom pieces, have a "show of sorts" on August 1st, and a request for "as many pieces as possible" for Musikfest. Whew! My bad. I completely forgot that Musikfest was in two weeks! So. Unfortunately this means that I must put off the opening of the Etsy shop until after the festival. (poop) What this does mean - is that all you out of town guests and loyal local followers, will be able to see/purchase a wide variety of works at Ostara* in Bethlehem during the festival, which begins August 1st.
I will be making several posts over the next few days, with new pieces, dolls, etc. that will be available at Ostara*. The shop is located at 521 Main Street, Bethlehem, right at the heart of the festival. Please stop in and check out all of the wonderful and eclectic array of wares. The Proprietor, Mary, is a fantastic woman, and great supporter of local artists, and her shop is truly a magical place.
Ostara*

Check back for updates on the schedule for August 1. While Musicfest opens in Bethlehem, First Friday celebration will be taking place in downtown Emmaus - and I will be performing the great task of being in two places at once! .......now, where did I put that timeturner????.... It should be quite a beginning to what is turning into quite a month!
Cheers!
